It's annoying when your washing machine leaks water in the laundry room. Washing machines are designed not to leak, so the puddle of water indicates there might be something broken in your machine.
If your washer is leaking, here are a few places to quickly check to see if you can spot the problem. It may be best to call in the professionals and have your leaking machine taken care of!
Water Level Switch Malfunctions: Your washer could overflow if the water level switch is not working correctly. If any of the three components of the water level switch break, you could see overfilling or leaking from your machine.
A Broken or Disconnected Drain Pump: In case you notice that your machine is leaking water from the bottom, this could be caused by the drain pump. In most cases, the machine will rumble or shake a lot during a wash cycle if it is faulty. You can identify your washer's water pump by its two large hoses at the bottom of your machine. Make sure that these connections are not loose, clogged, or broken.
The Water Supply Hose Is Loose or Missing: Start by checking behind your machine. There should be a drain hose that connects to the drainpipe that emerges from your washer, if this hose is missing or loose, the puddle may be caused by that. If the loose parts are broken or missing, call for a professional.
An Obstructed Filter or Basket: If the catch basket on your washing machine goes without being cleaned regularly, this definitely could lead to some leakage. You can find it near the center table or at the end of the drainpipe with a removable filter.
There may not be catch baskets in newer washers.
Even if a leak seems small, it is best to fix the problem by calling a professional. Standing water in your home may cause major problems, including water damage or mold.
